Joining the National Guard

I'm joining the Army National Guard soon, as in possibly within the next 3 weeks. I've already filled out my information, which took me 3 weeks alone, and I signed my papers to get my physical done for them and they'll be callin' me sometime this week to let me know when my appointment is. After that I just have to go to MEPS in Columbia and that's where I'll sign my life away for eight years. I plan to one day become a helicopter pilot after about 6 years or so, but I'll wind up goin' in as a Crew Chief on a Blackhawk after I get out of AIT hopefully if the position stays open. I'll probably end up goin' to Basic Trainin' sometime this summer, maybe June, whenever they tell me my date. So when that day comes, I'll be inactive for about 10 weeks, which is 2 1/2 months and then I'll be inactive again while im at AIT to become a Crew Chief. Just a heads up.

It's pretty possible considering I'm co-leader. Plus, Jay does what I tell him to do.

I went for my physical examination today. I'll just say it's very thorough. I passed out after my blood test though. The good news is my vision is still 20/20 in both eyes and I have exceptional hearin', better than most they say. Everything turned out fine though.

Well bad news. My recruiter got my results back from my physical and called me. I was surprised to hear that I'm actually "Not qualified to join the National Guard." This is due to sea sickness and some motion sickness I get from doin' things like readin' in a car or in some kind of vehicle or doin' somethin' like tyin' my shoe or somethin' that requires me to move my head around too much. He can get me a waiver to allow me to join still, but I won't be able to fly later because this problem will disqualify me when it comes time to get my flight physical. The main reason I wanted to join was to fly helicopters, so if I can't do that, I guess I'm not joinin'. This is disapointin' but it is what it is.

awww man that sucks. My hopes to fly for the air force were dashed when I found out I'm pretty much legally blind in my right eye... :/ sorry to hear that man

Ah sorry you got declined for what you wanted. I can talk from experience though MEPS is a long process and if something happens where you cannot do what wanted then God just may have other plans for you. I was looking into Armor Division in Army and was told that I had lots of things stopping but most if wanted to could get waivers but it limited the possible career paths. But lots of prayers and I was directed to the path I am on now. Sometimes we are shortsighted and do not realize what all God has planned for us.

Sorry to hear that man. Both you and me thought you had it figured out. God proved us wrong. Don't be down about it, God wants you somewhere else.
