The Count of Monte Cristo
We had to read this book for English this past six weeks, and I must say it's the first required book that I've truly enjoyed reading. It's a very complicated book that has stuff going on at all levels throughout the book. Along with being an amazing read, it has some interesting philosophies in it, and deals quite a bit with God. I didn't have the chance to truly reflect on it since I had to rush through it and hit only the main points for all our tests on it, but I might get it again over the summer to really read it. We also had to read an abridged version, so I'll probably get the unabridged version if I do. Have any of y'all read it? What do you make of it?

I think my older brother read it, and he liked it. I haven't gotten around to it, but I have considered it...I have to be honest, though: it's not my favorite style of writing to read.

I talked with a friend this weekend and he said that the unabridged is much better than any abridged version (well, okay, that was to be expected..)
But how so? Like, what don't you like about it?

It's just the writing style, not the content. It's hard for me to get into that style. I just read the summary of Monte Cristo, though, and it sounds much more interesting than The Three Musketeers. I didn't realize that it dealt so much with Napoleon, who has been a topic of great interest to me since I started reading War and Peace. It'd be interesting to see a post-Napoleonic Empire Frenchman's view from the same time as Tolstoy's.

Oh my gosh. The movie doesn't even begin to do the book justice. The book is so much better! I mean, that's true of every movie based on a book. but the only similarity between the movie and the book is that they're both called the Count of Monte Cristo...
