New firmware updates coming 3DS this year

Nintendo's president Satura Iwata held a video conference today to reveal new content coming to the 3DS. Part of the message involved the 3DS' built-in software. The updates will include the following:

*3D video recording. Up to 10 minutes of 3D video can be recorded at a time, and additional features let users make stop-motion videos or rapid-fire pictures.

*Find Mii 2, which is available to players who completed the Find Mii built-in software. The second go-about of the free, built-in RPG has branching paths and team battles.

*StreetPass map. Now, when players tag each other in StreetPass mode, their location is noted on a map. This opens up new addictive gameplay opportunities as players try to tag Miis in certain states. According to the Japanese demonstration, which had the country divided into its precincts (for the US, it would be the states), the new feature highlights areas in which Miis have/have not been met.

*A feature that allows players to write messages to potential StreetPassersby...I think I just coined a new term. This feature will also let players send messages and pictures their online friends via SpotPass.

*New puzzles to complete in the Mii Plaza.
