Shaping Up Our Attitude

Post  Jayccarl01 on Sat Jan 09, 2010 3:04 pm

Greetings Everyone,

As some of you may be aware, a certain air has begun to infiltrate the ranks of the Christian clans on Combat Arms. The amount of complaining among members has reached a point that is unbearable, causing people to want to leave in search of a more peaceful respite elsewhere. This shocks me, as it is the purpose of our clan to be a place of peace and fellowship. Therefore, I have come up with a multiple-step plan to attack this attitude and to return our clan to its place of peace.

All Members

We have long stated that we have only three rules: no hacking, glitching, or swearing. However, like the Pharisees of old, we think that as long as we follow those rules to a "T", we are fine. I am now proposing that we all closely examine the spirit of our laws; and the only way to do this is to more actively talk about God's Word. We say "don't swear" with the intention that the law should never be broken; but, we neglect to realize the impact of our negative words as well. Simple words like "noob" and "yeah right" have an astounding effect on other people, but we utter them anyway to make ourselves feel better about somebody else's achievement. I give credit to coopler for finding this verse:

"Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing." --Philippians 2:14-16

I think this verse should be our goal as well: to be blameless and pure.

Administrators

Our job now is to focus on everything that is said by members of our clan with more focus than before. We need to not let a simple name-calling to go by without us addressing the issue. We have to be even more encouraging to our members to make the right choices: while we cannot know what they say in person, we CAN help them control what they type. For we say what is in our hearts.

"Not many should become teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive a stricter judgement; for we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a mature man who is also able to control his whole body. Now when we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we also guide the whole animal. And consider ships: though very large and driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So too, though the tongue is a small part of the body, it boasts great things. Consider how large a forest a small fire ignites. And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among the parts of our bodies; it pollutes the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is set on fire by hell. For every creature--animal or bird, reptile or fish--is tamed and has been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in God's likeness." --James 3:1-10 [emphasis added]

Can you guess what this means? More work for us! But I want us to gladly accept the challenge. Let's all work hard so that we can "shine like stars"!

this will be a good goal to make this a much better clan! With a little work, I think we can get this to be a happy place for friendship and fellowship (haha Philmont Grace reference Very Happy).

And btw Jay, the verse from James you quoted was a verse I used as inspiration for a poem (about emotions, this one was for 'hatred') in 8th grade! It's a small world! If I remember right, I directly quoted it... oh well, back on topic.

If we can get a lot of the clans' attitudes to be more optimistic and helpful, this clan will be much better off!

Another couple of verses related to this idea that may good to think on are James 4:1-2

"1.What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you?
2.You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God."

These words are important to remember in any relationship. The number one reason people argue or fight is due to selfishness. Everyone wants to stand up for their own "rights" and what they believe they "deserve." Yet, as Christians we are to be, "quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry," (James 1:19). In other words, even if you think someone is doing something wrong to you it is never a good idea to immediately react in anger. I continually have to remind myself to think about what I am saying before I say it. I want to be sure I am not saying it simply out of selfishness, but to greater glorify God and help other people. Our words are very powerful. They can be used to build others up or to destroy them, and we should always be mindful of what we say.

I think that a simple step most of us can take is instead of saying 'no way!', 'wat?', or 'lucky!', when we get shot we could say ns or simply nothing at all. I kno I need to improve at this. Do you?

No, I mean in 3-4 threads, you guys we're getting so far off topic it wasn't even funneh >.> Like, you would say something, Tay would reply, then you would reply to her, and she would say something about your post which would make it go totally off topic. My point here is, try to stay on topic as best you can.

Now, back on topic guys! Very Happy
